Mavericks play-by-play voice Mark Followill announced Williams will start against the Cleveland Cavaliers on Friday.
Williams Continues to Battle Injuries with Mavs
Once considered among the best point guards in the league, Williams' career continued sliding in 2015-16.
He averaged 14.1 points and 5.8 assists per game in his first season with the Mavericks. According to Basketball-Reference.com, Williams' 14.6 player efficiency rating and minus-0.1 box plus/minus were the lowest since his rookie season. Heading into Wednesday, Williams was averaging 15.0 points, 5.8 assists and 2.2 rebounds per game this season.
The 32-year-old also missed 17 games last year, failing for the third straight year to appear in at least 70 regular-season games.
Little has gone right for Dallas in 2016-17, and Williams' injury compounded the team's bad luck. The team will look to get back on track with him back on the floor.
